Military Reputations in the Corriodor

This is a panel from a G I Joe: A Real American Hero comic from back in the late 1980's. I've edited the text balloons a bit to reflect the situation in Holtzmann's Corridor. In case it's not obvious, a Raid and Hostage Rescue has just taken place.

Now this is just a bit of silly fun on a Friday night, but it does reflect a bit of the political rivalry that exists in my Church and Empire setting.

What could be said about the Pocket Empires or the Third Imperium & its rivals in your game?

Bonus points if you have this issue, and can tell me who these two mercenaries were actually talking about.

Are there Soccer Moms in Space?

If there are, then we have a vehicle for them. Designed by my son, using the Mgt 2e Vehicle Handbook. Enjoy, if you can.

Minivan (TL-8)

Chassis: Light Ground Vehicle

Spaces: 10 (5dtns)

Crew/Passengers: 1/7 (8 spaces)

Speed: Medium (Slow)/200kph (100kph)

Range: 400km (600km)

Agility: +1

Hull: 20

Armor: 2/2/2

Traits: None

Armament: None

Equipment: Improved Control Systems (5000Cr), Basic GPS (2000Cr, DM+1 to Navigation checks), Entertainment System (200Cr)

Cargo: 0.5tns (2 spaces) Note: 6 seats can be folded down to provide an additional 1.5tns (6 spaces) of cargo

Cost: 14,700Cr

Roomy and comfortable, the minivan is perfect for adventuring in town. The GPS is capable of linking in to a city's navigation grid for an easy commute to meet a Patron or visit a Startown Bar. If you roll with a smaller crew, there's plenty of cargo space. Simple and efficient design with an optional speed governor so even under manual control you never have to worry about those pesky Legal Encounters - this vehicle just won't break the speed limit!

In Defense of Older Adventurers

On occasion, some gamers like to remark on the fact that Traveller characters are mostly middle-aged by the time they begin play (assuming they survive character creation). Is it really necessary for me to point out that the off-screen prior service is simply glossing over the “low level play” of level based systems, or the “few character points” stage of point-buy systems?

Don't harass us middle-aged guys who go off in search of adventure. We're not old, we're experienced. It's at this time of life when you finally know what you want, and go after it. And you're not taking any guff from punks.

Like this guy – he took no guff, and took names.

A Traveller meme poster for your amusement

This was shared on Google+ yesterday. It was too good to not pass along.

Happy Travelleing, y'all.

And remember, characters who die in pre-game come back as NPCs!

One Way to Deal with Pirates

A pirate ship, yo ho!

An encounter with pirates in Traveller

Referee: Dad
Josiah Greene, captain of SS Lioness: Zach
Zeke Mason, XO and head of security: Joel

Referee: The navigator tells you that the pirates that are in pursuit have reached overtake velocity. It is no longer possible to outrun them.

Josiah: What do we know about the pirate’s ship? How big is it?

Referee: Your sensors indicate it’s a 400-ton vessel, probably a modified Type-P corsair.

Josiah: I’d like to make an Education throw to determine the size of the crew.

Referee: Ok, that should be an average difficulty, so roll EDU or less, no DMs.

Josiah: (rolls) Made it!

Referee: The Type P usually has only 10 crewmen, possibly as many as 12.

Zeke: Are we going to fight them?

Josiah: Maybe, but I think we can outsmart them first. (writing) I want to rig this up in the airlock. (hands referee a list)

85 Reasons why CT rocks

Found on the web: 85 Reasons why Classic Traveller is Great!

http://www.caddocourt.com/traveller/reasons.html
From Daryen's Traveller Pages

My top five favorite reasons, in no particular order:

# 1 Shotguns in SPACE!
From Aliens to Firefly to Honor Harrington, slug throwers belong in the far future. They work, and will continue to work. The Imperial Armed Forces Vehicle Guide, Altair Subsector volume 3 (a third-party Traveller supplement) covering armored vehicles made the point this way - "lasers can be defeated in a number of ways (reflec, aerosols, etc), but the only thing that will stop projectile weapons is armor, and LOTS OF IT." Traveller has never embraced the handwavium of personal 'force fields' or 'shields', so the bullet-firing weapon remains supreme. Also # 75 - lasers that weigh a ton and slugthrowers that don't.

# 84 Andre Norton, Jack Vance, Larry Niven, Issac Asimov, Edgar Rice Burroughs, et al; I can adventure in or steal from their universes as I please and Classic Traveller has the flexibility to adapt their visions to adventures!  Not to mention this:

All your Sci-Fi Are Belong to Us.

# 35 Characters who start knowing a thing or ten and don't need to 'gain levels'.  I have written before about my appreciation for Traveller not going the route of XP-quests and 'leveling up'.

# 68 Social Status as a major attribute. And people calling you "Sir" or "Your Grace". It is good to be Noble.

(Tie)
# 9 Lack of minute details, thus encouraging creative play.
# 10 Two little dice decide everything.

As compared to the D20/Modern system that has to have tables, modifiers and rules for everything. Too restrictive for me!

But I came back as an NPC!

Really, it's not the worst thing that could happen.

Traveller Motivational Posters!

A few "motivational" posters I found on the Web.

Exactly. It's out there, man. Go find it.

Yeah, but you knew the job was dangerous when you took it!

Because chargen should be lethal too.

Chargen is like skipping the 'origin story' and going straight to the good parts.

One more term & I get retirement pay! And two more skills.

What are you waiting for?

They do NOT like meat-eaters. Like YOU.

And do not mess with the Imperial Marines.

Everything's better with rapid-pulse fusion guns.

Many of these are from the RPGnet wiki.
