I received a request for the status of all PCs that are/have been in play at the table.
To the best of my record-keeping knowledge, this is all correct. Week 24 of year 929 of the Space Age began on August 9th. I continue in my quest to keep the game clock running.

I strongly recommend that this Friday we pick up some of the PCs on Holtzmann back in week 9, so that they can begin to catch up. The Schamel Affair (which I will post about one of these days) went from week 16 to week 22. Your PCs who have yet to catch up to week 16 will learn about those events as the calendar indicates. Remember that in space, news travels at the speed of Jump. Imperial news moves at Jump-4, most Corridor powers move at Jump-2 or 3.
This is complicated, but not as bad as it may seem. The game calendar will keep moving. Players can run multiple characters provided that they don't interact with each other out of time order. Players cannot impart to characters in the past information their other characters further in the future already know. The two PCs must be at the same week in time, and the same planet in space at minimum to share intel.
For those of us not at your table, would you mind elaborating on this a bit? How many players are typically at the table in any given session, are you playing in person or by VTT, and whatever other logistical information you think might be useful, if that's all right?
ReplyDeleteWe play in person, generally every Friday night. Some nights we have 5 players, but I've had 9 or 10 around the table. One player who lives at a distance has a Patron character, providing missions and opportunities for adventures. A few players are running solo characters too. The time-keeping is work, but not too hard. Much of the time we keep to the 1:1 time model, but not always.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of a player being a Patron character seems fascinating. How does that work? Do you give them a budget which they can use to provide rewards? How do they select which missions to hand to the other players?
DeleteWe're still finding our way to a rules-based method for determining a Patron's budget. The main Patron player runs a Noble who is angling for more political power. He hands out missions and some funding to the table players. He's got multiple irons in the fire, which is part of why players have more than one character. The table players have the choice of which tasks offered by the Patron to pursue. Some of the table players have their own goals (ship ownership, etc.) they are after, and work on those around & during Patron jobs.
DeleteHow does the Patron player develop missions? Do you discuss with them what they're trying to do and come up with mission suggestions for them, does the Patron player just make them up at will, or some other thing?
